1st Grade Friends

Here are a couple of things to remember:

BEE Folders

BEE Folders will be sent home Monday through Friday. They will be expected back the following morning. These will help you and I keep in touch and help your child keep papers organized. There are instructions on the back of the folder. Remember to put any notes to me in the front of the folder so I can quickly see in the morning if there’s anything I need to read immediately.

Water Bottles

Students will need to bring a water bottle to school with their name on it. Please send a water bottle that has a pop-up lid as opposed to the screw on lids (less chance of a messy spill).

Birthdays

You may send in a simple class snack to celebrate your child's birthday. We will be celebrating summer birthday's on the half birthdays. Invitations to parties can only be passed out in school if the whole class is invited (or all girls if it is a girl party or all boys for a boy party). Children this age are very sensitive to being left out.

Homework

All homework is a reinforcement or extension of class instruction. Look for homework Monday through Thursday. All homework will be due back to school on Friday morning. A "Homework Helper" is needed to go over directions and make sure work is completed and returned to school. Please sign or initial your child's work and send a note if it wasn't done.

Lunch Money

Your child does not give lunch or milk money directly to the cashier at the cafeteria; it is given to me and then I send our class’ money down each morning. To make this quick and easy so we can get started with our day, please follow these guidelines:
When your child has money for lunch, please send it in an envelope or plastic zip bag with this information:

If your child buys milk, please send the entire week’s milk money on Monday, rather than the money for one milk each day.

Star Student of the Week

We are beginning our Star Student program. Each student will be the star of the class for a week. The program will have the following components:

Monday: Sharing “All About Me Poster”

~ Students may bring in up to 8 pictures to share and put up on their “star board”.

(posters will be sent home the Thursday before in M.O.O.S.E book)

Tuesday: Secret Sharing Bag

~ The star student will take home the secret sharing bag on Monday. They will bring it back to school with an item that they would like to share in it. They are not to show what is in the bag to anyone. We will be asking questions and guessing what is in the secret sharing bag.

Wednesday: “Our Families” class book page

~The star student will share their completed class book page with the class.

(class book page will be sent home on the Monday before in M.O.O.S.E. book)

Thursday: Guest Reader/Favorite Book

~ The star student may invite a family member in to read their favorite story to the class.

(Guest readers need to check into the office and be to the classroom by 2:45. The star student and the guest reader need to choose the story prior to arrival at school.)

The star student will be chosen randomly each week. A note along with the “All About Me Tee” poster will come home in M.O.O.S.E. books the Thursday before their star week as a reminder.
